It all started in 1967 ...

1967...

... the married couple Klaus and Hilde Lachmund set up their first own grocery store on the Westerwieke in Jheringsfehn. The net market at that time comprised a sales area of 150m².

1968...

... a second market with around 170m² was added on Königsstraße in Warsingsfehn.

1972...

... after the hectic build-up phase and a short phase of continuity, the first big challenge followed: The multi consumer market opened in Leer and turned out to be tough competitor.

1974...

... the Lachmund couple pursued their vision by merging the two existing markets and building the first building, which was huge for the time, on the muddy and washed-up meadow between Königsstraße and Friedrich-Ebert-Straße.

This is how the first proverbial supermarket on the green field was created with a sales area of 1,500 m². This step, often referred to as "daring" at the time, turned out to be trend-setting for the still young community. Little by little, the town hall, the school center and numerous other commercial settlements were built.

1975...

... the first bank building was built next to the supermarket in the center, which was built by the Raiffeisenbank. Today the VELA garden market is located in this building, the Raiffeisenbank moved to Rudolf-Eucken-Straße.

1986...

... the previous successes led the couple to open a non-food market in 1985. There was everything from shoes, textiles and gifts to china, housewares, stationery, toys, car accessories, bicycles and everything for the garden. The company invested a total of 1.5 million marks in the expansion.

In addition, it was connected to EDEKA.

1991...

Maike Weber, head of the Fruit & Vegetables department at the time, won the "golden apple" for the best department within EDEKA.

Ms. Weber has already completed her training with us and is still working for us today.

1992...

... the Lachmund consumer market (VELA for short) celebrated its 25th company anniversary.

1999...

... followed the 25th anniversary of the location in Heinrich-Lübke-Straße in Moormerland.

2001...

... the existing non-food market was expanded to include a three-storey extension with a sales area of around 5,000 m².

2007...

... the grocery store moved to the larger area and was allowed to call itself "EDEKA" from now on. For reasons of awareness, the new store was not called "EDEKA Lachmund", as is usually the case, but kept the name "VELA" (consumer market LAchmund).

A large beverage market and a TEDi were built on the old grocery store.

2017...

... the management passed on to the third generation and the siblings Jessica and Sebastian Lachmund still manage the VELA store. The takeover took place on the occasion of the company's 50th anniversary, which of course was celebrated in a big way.

TODAY...

... the successful company is still growing and then as now is the largest and most important local supplier in Moormerland. A total of 60 employees are employed, including many trainees.

The company has stuck to its values and roots and still maintains close contact with its many regional suppliers. Nevertheless, the Lachmund family drives innovations wherever possible and is still - your meeting point in Moormerland!
